Chanel Bleu

Posted on

Bleu de Chanel is Chanel’s “first major male fragrance since 2004’s Allure Homme Sport and its first men’s master brand since 1990’s Egoïste.”

Bleu, which means blue in French, is meant to embody an idea of freedom represented by the olfactory note of a deep blue sea, a theme also reflected in the color of the flacon.

“The man who refuses to be bound by convention resists the ordinary every day in favor of freedom, and finds satisfaction in the unexpected. His fragrance liberates the senses – fresh, clean, profoundly sensual; A signature statement of his determination to live an unscripted life.”

Bleu de Chanel was created by Chanel’s in-house perfumer Jacques Polge and it contains notes of citrus ( bergamot, lemon, grapefruit ), “deep blue sea” accord, peppermint, pink pepper, nutmeg, ginger, jasmine, cedar, vetiver, patchouli, labdanum and frankincense.

Bleu de Chanel starts with a big citrusy top note ( lemon, grapefruit ) and a strong metallic synthetic lavender. It is cold, lemony and aromatic with spicy accents from pink pepper. The heart leads with two of the most overdone notes in masculine fragrances of the last five years, cedar and ginger. The drydown is woody almost dry with some ambery notes.

Sadly, Chanel Bleu is just another clean, masculine , sporty fragrance; Nothing groundbreaking, nothing unconventional, nothing impressive, nothing special.

I sprayed this liberally over my skin, and I have to say, ” Sorry Bleu de Chanel, there’s just no chemistry between us “

  1. I was sure you weren’t going to be swept off your feet by this one, David. It’s just beyond ordinary. I bet no one would buy it if it didn’t feature the Chanel label. Apparently women love it – I for my part sure don’t.

Wishing you happy holidays and all the best for the upcmonig year! Have fun shopping and keep on enchanting us with your posts!

PS I got Guerlain’s Ecrin 6 Couleurs Rue de Franc Bourgeois among other things for Xmas and I must say your recpommendations were as always spot on! It’s simply gorgeous. Thank you!
