Chêne was launched in 2004, and described as “the comfort and magnitude of oak”. Chene is of course French for Oak, and Chene is an unapologetically woody scent.
It was developed by perfumer Christopher Sheldrake, and the notes include cedar crystals, wood sap, black thyme, immortelle, beeswax, silver birch, rum absolute and tonka bean.
The woods of Chêne are smoky, dry, spicy, velvety, warm; Practically every characteristic that can be attributed to a woody note is present here. It begins with a sharp ( almost pungent ) smoked honey notes before the intense herbaceousness of thyme and the sweet, “ juiciness / waxiness ” of immortelle become apparent. The base is a sophisticated affair of fiery woods, rum and the sweet tonka; Enveloping the wearer in a magical, alluring sillage.
I love this sultry, intoxicating wood; It has a rather unisex appeal. It delivers a veil of sophistication, mystery & sensuality on my skin; Wearing it, is like drinking honeyed whisky on a leather couch in front of a fireplace in deep winter.
